ABOUT BEN MAYER-HARMAN
Today, Ben personally oversees MH Carpentry projects while working with trusted trades and subcontractors as required. Everyone brought onto an MH Carpentry project is expected to uphold the same standards for workmanship, professionalism and customer care.
WHY MH CARPENTRY EXISTS
Ben started MH Carpentry after seeing how unnecessarily stressful construction can become for homeowners. Good workmanship should be expected, but clients should also be able to expect clear communication, thoughtful planning, respect for their property and a contractor who remains accountable after the tools are packed away.
The goal behind MH Carpentry is simple: when a client hands us a project, they should feel like something has been taken off their shoulders.
EXPERIENCE BUILT ON REAL PROJECTS
Before launching MH Carpentry, Ben gained professional construction experience with Northern Craftsman, a custom-home builder in Erin. His work exposed him to custom residential construction, board-and-batten siding, framing, drywall, renovations, exterior carpentry and site logistics.
His experience also included renovation work on an 1850s Newmarket home, where existing structural and roof framing had to be adapted and supplemented to create usable modern living space.
Those projects helped shape the way Ben approaches MH Carpentry today: understand how the entire building comes together, plan carefully around existing conditions and think beyond the finished surface.
Projects referenced from Northern Craftsman were completed as part of that builder's team and are included as part of Ben's professional background.
LEADERSHIP THROUGH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
While attending Orangeville District Secondary School, Ben participated extensively in Habitat for Humanity's youth skilled-trades tiny-home program. His involvement included hands-on and project-management experience across framing, insulation, vapour barrier, strapping, LP siding, trim, drywall, painting and preparing structures for transportation.
Ben also helped lead student teams and later represented participating students in a speech to Habitat leadership and program sponsors about the impact the program had on practical construction skills, confidence and leadership.
