Renovations & Remodeling

Renovations That Make the Home Work Better

Good renovations are not just cosmetic. They should improve how the home functions, how people move through the space and how the finished result fits the way the homeowner actually lives. MH Carpentry takes on thoughtful residential renovations ranging from room reconfiguration and interior framing to structural carpentry, office conversions, finish work and small additions.

What We Take On

  • Moving or adding walls
  • Room reconfiguration
  • Structural carpentry
  • Home-office conversions
  • Closets/storage as part of a larger renovation
  • Interior framing
  • Small additions
  • Drywall and painting as components of the renovation scope
  • Trim and finish carpentry
  • Select demolition and preparation work

MH Carpentry does not primarily market standalone drywall, painting or furniture work. Those trades may be part of a larger renovation, but they are not the core service.

Can I Remove This Wall?

Sometimes - but it should never be assumed that a wall is non-load-bearing just because of how it looks. Before modifying a wall, MH Carpentry reviews the existing construction and determines whether structural input, engineering or permits are required. If professional structural design is needed, the appropriate engineer or designer is brought into the project.

Renovating Existing Homes

Existing homes rarely behave like new construction. Framing may be out of square, previous renovations may have changed the structure, and plumbing, electrical or mechanical systems may be hidden where you do not expect them. MH Carpentry approaches renovation work by understanding what is already there before deciding how to change it.

Your Home Is Still Your Home

Most renovation clients still need to live in the house while work is underway. We make an effort to keep access clear, control debris, communicate anything that affects pets or children and leave the work area organized at the end of the day. The standard is simple: you should not have to wonder whether it is safe to walk through your own home after we leave.

What Happens if We Find Something Unexpected?

Renovations occasionally reveal conditions that could not reasonably be seen before opening a wall or removing finishes. When that happens, we stop, document the issue, explain the options and discuss any cost or schedule impact before proceeding with work outside the original scope. Changes are discussed before they become charges.

Coordinating Other Trades

Depending on the scope, a renovation may require electrical, plumbing, HVAC, engineering or other specialized work. MH Carpentry can coordinate trusted trade partners where appropriate, while Ben remains the primary point of contact and responsible for the overall client experience.

Renovation FAQ

Do you handle drywall and painting?

Yes, when they are part of a larger renovation scope. MH Carpentry does not primarily market standalone drywall or painting services.

Can you move a load-bearing wall?

Potentially, but structural design, engineering and permits may be required before the work can proceed.

Can I stay in the house during construction?

Often, yes. It depends on the project. Access, dust, noise, utilities, pets and safety are discussed before work begins.

Do renovations need permits?

Some do. Structural alterations, additions and certain changes may require municipal approval. We review that during planning.

What if something unexpected is found behind a wall?

We document it, explain the available options and any cost/schedule impact, then obtain approval before proceeding outside the agreed scope.

Can you coordinate other trades?

Yes, where appropriate. Trusted trades and subcontractors can be coordinated as part of the project.

Do you take very small renovation jobs?

Selectively. MH Carpentry is generally best suited to meaningful renovation scopes where thoughtful planning and quality execution matter.
